Matches are planned to be held in the central and western regions of Ukraine
President of the Professional Football League Alexander Kadenko told in what format they plan to start the new season in the second and third Ukrainian divisions.
According to the functionary, the matches are planned to be held in the central and western regions of the country against the backdrop of active hostilities in Ukraine.
“Most likely, in the First and Second Leagues there will be a format with a division into two groups, with eight teams in each group. The total number of participants is 16 teams in the First League and 16 in the Second. There are different options, but I will not voice them yet, ”Kadenko explained.
“We talked with the clubs and discussed these options, we will wait for the clubs to decide, and then we will inform you. So far, I’m not ready to say whether there will be a classic format for holding competitions in the First and Second Leagues. I didn’t feel like most clubs supported the classic version.”
“We will try to attract as many cities as possible, if the situation and military administrations allow. I think that it will be the Center and West of Ukraine. Because if we take only Kyiv, then we simply physically cannot play all the matches of the Premier League and the First League at the same stadiums.
“The load will be quite significant. Much will depend on the clubs themselves, how they will be able to provide security measures in the stadiums, and on the permissions of the military administrations.
Earlier, Kadenko said that the new football season at the PFL level will start at the end of August or at the beginning of September.
The Premier League has set August 20 as the starting date for the new season. 16 clubs will compete in the elite division.
Earlier, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine decided to resume holding sports competitions in the country under martial law.
