Subsequently, the geography of the championship will expand
Season 2022/23 in Ukrainian Premier League launches in three cities – Kyiv, Lviv and Uzhhorod.
According to journalist Igor Burbas, the geography of the championship will subsequently expand depending on the de-occupation of territories and the remoteness of the front line.
16 teams will play in the classic format, without division into groups. When compiling the calendar, the territorial principle will be taken into account: in the first round, teams based in Kyiv will play separately against each other, and separately teams that have chosen the Western Regions as the venue for home matches.
At the moment, the clubs have chosen the following venues for home matches:
- Kyiv: Dynamo, Dawn, Chernomorets, Kryvbas, Kolos, Ingulets, Alexandria, Metalist 1925, Vorskla, Metalist
- Lviv: Rukh, PFC Lviv, Shakhtar
- Uzhgorod: Minai, Dnipro-1
Veres is due to put his stadium into operation in the near future and plans to hold home matches in Rivne.
It is noted that Zorya and Vorskla may eventually move to the West to make it more convenient to hold league matches after European competition. Dynamo is also considering the option of holding away matches against the “Western” pool of teams in the middle of matches in Europe.
It was reported that the final vote for the format of the new championship should take place in early July. The start of the new season is scheduled for August 20.
Last football season in Ukraine ended ahead of schedule due to a full-scale Russian invasion of Ukrainian territories.
