Lesya Tsurenko spoke about her charitable activities, as well as plans for the upcoming tournaments.
Today, the Ukrainian has reached the quarterfinals of the WTA tournament in Eastbourne, and next week she will start in the main draw of Wimbledon.
“Now every tournament is worth its weight in gold. I perceive each tournament as very important. Hope this trend changes soon. The reason for this is the elbow, and every tournament that I manage to play without pain is a very positive and happy moment, and I try to make the most of it. Here I really have the opportunity to improve my rating, and at Wimbledon there is an opportunity, say, to make money, because for the last three years I have not been able to do this either, ”explained Tsurenko.
“Points are prioritized because I’m looking at the foundation of the US Open. A good performance here will get me closer to my main goal of being in the main draw in the US, so Eastbourne is more important for points and number of matches, and Wimbledon will be more important in terms of earnings.”
“Moreover, I have now made it a rule for myself that I spend a lot of money to help those people who volunteer, or when someone needs it for needs related to the war. I spend at least 10% for such purposes – this is my rule. To be honest, I get to give more, but at least 10% of the money earned at each tournament goes from me to some different charitable purposes.
In May, Tsurenko helped with the purchase of drinking water for the residents of Nikolaev, who, due to attacks by Russian troops, lived for a long time without a centralized water supply.
