Football deputy at Flamengo, Marcos Braz was sincere about an alleged prioritization of the team’s tournaments in the season; Rubro-Negro stays alive in three competitions
Marcos Brazvice football Flamengowas the last of the delegation to speak on boarding for Asunción: the red-and-black squad will face the Olympiaaway from home, in order to guarantee the place for the quarterfinals of the Libertadores 2023. The manager rejected the idea that the team from Rio would be prioritizing one championship over the other in the season.
“O Flamengo lost the game, you turn the key and go to the other championship. In the same way that, when we return from Asunción, with any result, we have to arrive and play the game with the São Paulo. This is empty talk that Flamengo chooses the championship”spiked Braz.
“Flamengo disputes the championships, wins some, loses others. Win more than you lose. In these last years, we went to three Libertadores finals and won two. We always try, but there are strong opponents too”, he added. Currently, the Rubro-Negro remains alive in three tournaments: Libertadores, Brazil’s Cup and in the dispute of Brasileirão.
Although Flamengo is positioned in the vice-leadership of the Brazilian Championship, the distance to the leader, Botafogo, is quite expressive: 13 points separate the Rio rivals still in the penultimate round of the first round. Despite having recognized the remote chances of winning it in 2023, Marcos Braz did not hide his favoritism for the national competition of consecutive points.
“I even understand some criticism for not being at the top of the Brazilian table for a long time. But you can be sure that if there’s a championship I like to win, it’s the Brazilian. I got one back there. The players won, but I, as the youngest vice-president in history, really like the Brazilian Championship, but often it is not possible”he explained.
