Joshua: I would rather box with a substitute than a dope in the ring

The Briton said that immediately after the fight he was tested for doping

Former World Champion Anthony Joshua (26-3, 23 KOs) stated that he agreed to an emergency replacement of an opponent before his fight in order not to deal with a boxer who is suspected of doping.

“Well, I’d rather deal with a changer than with a dope in the ring. You know, we invest our own money in testing and work with great people, and I’m glad that people know about it, because it’s already a hard game. It would be a nightmare to fight someone on steroids or whatever. I don’t even know what they use, but that would be a nightmare.”

“Let’s eradicate doping from boxing if we can. There are a lot of promising fighters who are risking their lives and I wouldn’t want one of them to have long-term injuries. The anti-doping agencies are doing a great job. They just checked me – urine, blood. I am a clean athlete and lead a clean lifestyle.”

Joshua knocked out Finnish heavyweight Robert Helenius in the seventh round. The fight took place on the night of August 13 in London at the O2 arena.

Recall that Helenius was urgently invited to the fight instead of Dillian Whyte, who failed the doping test. Helenius last entered the ring on August 5 this year and defeated compatriot Mika Mielonen. Last year, the Finnish boxer was knocked out in the first round by Deontay Wilder.

Joshua won his second consecutive victory after losing the belts in a duel with Ukrainian Oleksandr Usyk. Earlier in March, AJ defeated American Jermaine Franklin by going all 12 rounds.
