Lille coach urged Benfica and Braga not to sell players to the aggressor country
Former coach minerand now tutor of Lille Paulo Fonseca urged clubs in Portugal not to trade with the aggressor country.
The 50-year-old Portuguese coach turned to Benfica and Braga, about whom there were rumors about the possible sale of players to the Russian championship.
“During this week I have been reading that Benfica and Braga are considering selling Chiquinho and Tormen to Russian clubs. Benfica, which from the very beginning of the war exemplarily developed campaigns to help Ukraine. I refuse to believe it.”
“I know time is ticking and people in their homes usually don’t hear much news related to the war in Ukraine anymore. But every day Russia continues to kill people and, above all, innocent children, maybe some of them at home while watching a football match.”
“I know one thing. If Benfica and my Braga make deals with Russian clubs, then this money will drip with the blood of children who die every day in Ukraine. And a lot of those kids loved football,” Fonseca concluded.
Recall that the ex-coach of Gornyakov now works in Lille, his contract with the French club runs until the end of the 2023/24 season.
In the first round of the new French championship, Lille played a 1-1 draw with Nice on the road. On August 20, the Doges will host Nantes.
