The Pitmen’s mentor is dissatisfied with the performance of the team after the break
Head coach Miner Patrick van Leeuwen commented on the victory in the match with Alexandria (2:1) in the third round Ukrainian Premier League.
“I think we started the game well, played aggressively in attack. There were many scoring chances, we scored two good goals through the right flank – two high-quality serves from Gocholeishvili, after which Sikan scored the first goal, and the second – Traore. And besides that, there were many chances where they could score the third and fourth goals even before the break. In the second half, we lost in the organization of the game, especially in defense, which should not happen at all. And this gave many options for Alexandria. Dima Riznyk helped the team well several times to keep the score 2:1 until the end of the match.”
“Lassina had a minor injury during this training week and before the match we told him to let us know when it was going to be tough so we wouldn’t risk it. It was the first change. And with the second substitution, I wanted to see a slightly different game on the left flank, so I replaced Sikan at half-time.
“I don’t like that in the second half the level of our organization and our style of ball play fell. And the same goes for defense. Therefore, we will focus on this in the coming week.”
Shakhtar scored 7 points and is third in the UPL standings. In the next round, Patrick van Leeuwen’s wards will play with Kryvbas on August 20.
