Some agents are trying to steal Shakhtar players
CEO Miner Sergei Palkin commented on FIFA’s decision to allow foreign players to suspend contracts with Ukrainian clubs due to the war in Ukraine.
Palkin noted that this norm had an impact on the Pitmen’s work on the transfer market – it would be difficult for the Donetsk club to keep foreign players.
“This summer the transfer market has completely changed for us. Today we do not buy players. But we can sell them. What can we offer foreign players at the moment? We play in the Champions League, but it is not known where we will play matches. If we play UPL abroad, we can keep some foreign players. If not, there is no chance. Nobody will come to play in Ukraine,” Palkin said.
“How many players will leave? It depends on the market. I think we will keep 95% of Ukrainian players. As for legionnaires, I don’t know yet. Difficult negotiations are underway.
“Some agents are destroying us. They are trying to steal the players. They play games, they contact clubs, they tell them not to pay Shakhtar. You can’t imagine what’s going on.”
“Agents come to clubs and say, ‘Don’t pay Shakhtar, the players will become free agents, just pay me 10 million euros and forget about the club’.”
“We are dissatisfied with the essence of the new FIFA rules regarding the war in Ukraine. The power to decide on the suspension of contracts is now in the hands of the players’ agents. This does not show the club’s intention to keep the players and the investment.”
“Now we have nine days to negotiate with our players to sell or loan to foreign clubs, which is simply not possible. FIFA did not help Ukrainian clubs by issuing such regulations. On the contrary, it significantly worsened our negotiations with the players and made the agents more powerful and wealthy.”
Earlier it was reported that Shakhtar plans to be based in Poland in order to keep some of the legionnaires in its squad. UPL home matches Pitmen intend to play in Lviv.
The start of the Ukrainian Championship 2022/23 is tentatively scheduled for August 20. Officially, the format and dates of the next championship draw have not been approved.
