French “Marseilles “failed to pass the Greek”Panathinaikos in the third qualifying round of the Football Champions League.
The main time of the second leg, which took place in Marseille, ended with the score 2:1 in favor of the hosts. The French double was scored by Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (2nd and 45+1 minutes). At Panathinaikos, Fotis Ioannidis scored in the 9th minute added to the second half.
The first encounter having ended with a score of 1-0 in favor of the Greek club, the match went into extra time, where the teams could not distinguish themselves. The outcome of the confrontation was decided in a penalty shootout, in which Panathinaikos players were more accurate – 5:3.
To reach the Champions League group stage, Panathinaikos will compete with Portuguese Braga. Marseille have qualified for the group stage of the Europa League.
