In an open training session before the decision against São Paulo, part of the Corinthians fans once again chanted homophobic chants against their rival at the Neo Química Arena
This Tuesday, the 15th, the Corinthians organized an open training, in the Neo Quimica Arenabefore the return leg of the semifinals of the Brazil’s Cupbefore the São Paulo. Just as the team is used to doing on the eve of decisions, Timão called its fans to the stands, but the Corinthians returned to chant homophobic chants against the rival.
Even at the beginning of the activity, part of the fans present at the Neo Química Arena referred to São Paulo as “bicharada”. It is worth mentioning that the song sung in the open training was the same that echoed in the Majestoso valid for the Brasileirão, which resulted in a punishment to Corinthians for the STJD: a game behind closed doors.
At the time, the court condemned Corinthians to play the match against Bragantino behind closed doors, but Timão appealed and postponed that decision. Thus, Alvinegro served his time in the 3-1 victory against Basque. As it happened in an environment that is not governed by CBFwhat happened in training should not be punished or even judged.
In the duel against Vasco, Vanderlei Luxemburgo sent a message to the fans, aiming to prevent matches with closed gates from happening again. “A game without fans is complicated, people have to understand that we are in another moment in the world, homophobia, racism, a lot of things that bring harm to the club”said the coach.
Due to the recent punishment, when Corinthians faced São Paulo again at Neo Química Arena, in the first leg of the semifinal, the crowd did not sing the offensive song. Even Timão made an appeal for the fans not to chant the homophobic chants.
