Hearn: People overestimate Wilder, he hasn’t beaten any of the top 5 heavyweights

Promoter confident of Anthony Joshua’s victory over Deontay

Promoter Eddie Hearn said that many people overestimate the capabilities of the ex-world champion Deontay Wilder. Hearn thinks the former heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua confidently defeat the American in their fight.

“I can’t believe how highly people rate Deontay Wilder. He has never beaten the top 5 heavyweights. Luis Ortiz is his best win, Deontay smashed him in the first fight and knocked him out in the second. He has never beaten an elite heavyweight.”

“I think Joshua can easily beat Deontay Wilder, but he can also beat Wilder. I don’t think it was necessary, but it’s good that Anthony got seven rounds against a tall opponent who can hit back.”

“I think it’s hard to accurately replicate Wilder’s strength. But I always felt that AJ could outbox Deontay.”

Anthony Joshua has said Wilder is very likely to be his next opponent. Coach Deontay Malik Scott said that the American will hold a preparatory fight in the fall, after which he intends to knock out Joshua in January.

Joshua knocked out Robert Helenius in the last fight, which took place on August 12 in London. Deontay’s last opponent was also Helenius – the American won by knockout in the first round.
