Grifonov’s mentor appreciates the high level of the Ukrainian midfielder, as well as his versatility
Head coach Genoa Alberto Gilardino at a press conference before the opening match of his team in Serie A against Fiorentina shared his opinion about the potential newcomer Grifonov, Ukrainian midfielder Ruslana Malinovsky.
“Let’s wait until he finally becomes our player. Malinowski needs no introduction and he did important things in Serie A.”
“In what position will I use Malinovsky? He played in Atalanta as a central midfielder or playmaker, in Genk as a point guard.
Recall that 30-year-old Malinovsky is one step away from moving from Marseille to Genoa. The clubs have already agreed to a one-year lease with a €10m buyout option. The player had to pass a medical examination and sign a contract.
From August 2019 to January 2023, the Ukrainian played 115 matches for Atalanta in Serie A (and 143 in all competitions), scored 23 goals, gave 24 assists.
In the second half of last season, while on loan, Ruslan played 23 matches for Marseille in all competitions. The Ukrainian scored two goals in them and gave one assist.
Alberto Gilardino was named Griffons coach in December 2022. He took over the Genoese team in 5th place in Serie B and managed to bring them back into the elite. Genoa will host Fiorentina in their first match of the new season of the Italian championship on August 19.
