Dnepr-1 considers Mikhailenko and Vicente Gomez in case of Jovicevic’s departure

For a possible transfer of a coach, the Dnipro club expects to receive compensation from Shakhtar

As it became known to the Sport Arena, SC Dnepr-1 is considering two candidates for the position of head coach of the club’s first team in case Igor Jovicevich leaves for Shakhtar.

According to our information, Dnipro can offer a post of mentor to a Ukrainian Dmitry Mikhailenko or a Spaniard Vicente Gomez.

Mikhailenko has already worked with the team, having gone from the Second League to the Premier League. Mikhailenko left Dnipro-1 in September 2020 after an unsuccessful start in the Ukrainian Championship. The last place of work of the specialist was the Cypriot Paphos. Also, according to our information, recently the coach rejected the offer of one of the clubs.

As for Vicente Gomez, the Spanish specialist also worked in Ukraine. He was a member of the coaching staff of Sergei Rebrov, when the latter was the head coach of the Kyiv club, and also headed the Donetsk Olympic. The last job of Gomez was the Azerbaijani Sabah, which he left in March of this year.

Also, according to our information, despite the FIFA amendments, according to which the contracts of all legionnaires in Ukrainian clubs are stopped for exactly a year from July 1, and using which Jovicevich can go to Shakhtar for free, Dnipro-1 hopes that the Donetsk club will not act in this way and will pay a certain compensation for the transfer of a specialist.

The Dnipro club intends to solve the coaching issue as soon as possible, since, according to our data, Dnipro-1 plans to start preparing for the new season next week.

Recall that the current coach of Dnipro-1 Igor Yovichevich is close to being appointed to Shakhtar. A key factor in the decision of the 48-year-old Croatian was the Pitmen’s future participation in the group stage of the Champions League.

Tentatively, the start of the new season in the Ukrainian championship is scheduled for August 20.
