Captain Dynamo – about the behavior of his partners after the match with Aris and the motivation of Ukrainians to defend their values
Captain Dynamo Sergei Sidorchuk made a statement regarding the incident after his team’s return match against Arisa V Bucharest.
“We often hear that one should not stoop to the level of the enemy. Sometimes it’s hard to agree because of injustice.”
“But we have to do our own thing. Yesterday was a high degree of emotion. The team and I did not want to circumvent the moral and sporting values in football with our behavior. They didn’t want to behave like our rivals.”
“It is important for us to show our Ukrainian heroes. Azov was and remains the heroes that we must tell the world about. We will continue to do so.”
“And it is important for the world to finally understand who is who and where the heroes are.”
Recall that immediately after the winning penalty shootout, the players of the Kyiv club ran up to the guests’ fan stand and began to show provocative gestures, after which a brawl broke out between the players of both teams.
Prior to this, during the first meeting in Thessaloniki on August 10, Aris fans posted offensive banners dedicated, in particular, to the Azov Battalion. On this occasion, the UAF turned to UEFA with a request to respond to the actions of the Greek fans.
Kiev head coach Mircea Lucescu, in turn, said that he does not approve, but understands the behavior of his wards. “The reaction of our players was the result of how the fans of Aris behaved,” the Romanian specialist emphasized at the post-match press conference.
Dynamo, having lost in the first meeting 0:1, won a strong-willed victory 2:1 in the return match, and then put the squeeze on Aris in the penalty shootout – 6:5. In the playoff round of the Conference League, the white and blue will play against the Turkish Besiktas.
