Lucescu: It’s hard to play in two days on the third, but this is not an excuse – we should have won today

Dynamo head coach complains about unforced mistakes and again talks about the need to strengthen the center of defense

Kyiv head coach Dynamo Mircea Lucescu at the press conference after the match Chernomorets shared his opinion about the reasons for the unsuccessful result.

“The worst mistakes were the ones we made ourselves. Sorry for the emotions, I’m very angry now after the match… It was difficult to move from Bucharest to Odessa, it’s hard to play in two days for the third, but that’s no excuse – we had to win today.”

“In the previous match, we played 120 minutes, so, for example, Yarmolenko, Sidorchuk found it difficult to continue the game, especially in such heat. They asked for a substitution and the players who took the field had to add and do everything to win.”

“The mistake Dyachuk made is unacceptable. Our centre-backs are still young, they don’t have enough experience and they can’t give all the strength on the pitch that the team and I demand from them.”

“At the same time, I would like to note that Chernomorets played very well today, they had a whole week to prepare for this fight, unlike us. We dominated in the first half, we had a lot of chances, as well as in the second half we also dominated the pitch. The opponent played on counterattacks, without positional attacks, and coped with it very well. I’m not sure, I still need to watch the replay, but it seems to me that there could still be a penalty against Chernomorets.”

“Now we are still looking for candidates to strengthen the center of defense. I still have to talk to the president of the club. Now we are giving chances to our young defenders, although objectively they still need a year or two in order to reach the level that Dynamo (Kyiv) should correspond to. We weren’t very lucky because we lost Popov – he is a very important player for Dynamo, but in two matches we couldn’t count on him. Let’s see what will happen next”.

Recall that Dynamo in Odessa lost to Chernomorets (2:3), conceding the decisive goal in the minority after the removal of Alexander Sirota.

Lucescu’s team will play the next match on August 24 against Besiktas in Bucharest in the playoffs of the Conference League qualification. In the championship, taking into account the transfers, the white-blues will play already in mid-September, after a pause for the national teams.
