Dnipro-1 considers Spaniard Gonzalo Garcia as head coach – journalist

The main difficulty in negotiations with him may be the issue of security.

One of the candidates for the post of new head coach of SC Dnipro-1 called 39-year-old Spaniard Gonzalo Garcia.

Recently, the young specialist has worked in the Croatian championship, where he has proven himself well. At the moment, Garcia is free, but the main problem for his move to Ukraine is the issue of security. Currently, the team is based in Uzhgorod, but after relegation from European competitions, it will be relocated to Dnipro.

Gonzalo Garcia spent a significant part of his playing career in the Netherlands. There he received his first independent coaching experience – at the head of Twente, which he kept in the Eredivisie. In 2021, the Spaniard became the coach of the Croatian Istria 1961, with which he first took 9th and then 5th place, stopping a step away from getting into European competition. This summer, his contract with the Croatian club expired.

Both in the Netherlands and in Croatia, the Spaniard mainly used the 4-3-3 game scheme.

Recall that SC Dnipro-1 started the season unsuccessfully, having won only one victory in all tournaments. After a fresh defeat from Obolon, Alexander Kucher, together with his staff, resigned from the post of head coach.

The Dnipros have consistently been eliminated from two qualifying tournaments – the Conference League (from Panathinaikos) and the Europa League (from Slavia). If the vice-champion of Ukraine in the playoff round of the Conference League does not pass the Slovak Spartak from Trnava, the European season will end for him.

Dnipro-1 will play the next match on Wednesday, August 23, against the above-mentioned opponent from Slovakia. Then the vice-champion will visit the leader of the current championship Rukh.
