Van Leeuwen: Referees should take into account that football is a contact sport and not listen to screams

The head coach of Shakhtar was dissatisfied with one of Chygrynskyy’s cards, as well as the sale of his wards

Head coach Miner Patrick van Leeuwen commented on a draw match with Kryvbas in the fourth round UPL.

“As for the red cards, the referee regarded the situations on the field as rough tackles, and he is right. I consider this his decision to be correct according to VAR. As for the removal of Chygrynskiy, I believe that one of the two yellow cards was not received.

“In general, I want to say that referees should take into account that football is a contact sport, and not listen to screams. And, in my opinion, the extra noise was created not by fouls, but by players who lost control of the ball.

“Today we should have won with a big goal difference, but we did not convert too many chances in attack, which gave confidence to the opponent, who scored three goals from three chances.”

As a reminder, on August 20 in Krivoy Rog, Kryvbas and Shakhtar played a draw 3:3. The Pitmen were leading 2:0 and 3:1 during the meeting. In the second half, there were three removals, two of them in the Pitmen (Artem Bondarenko and Dmitry Chygrynsky).

In the next round, on August 27, the Donetsk club will play against Kolos, with whom they currently share the 3rd place in the standings.
