Manchester United have completed a club investigation into the Greenwood case. The winger will leave the club

Mason was suspected of raping and beating his girlfriend, but all charges were later dropped.

Manchester United released a statement on the results of an internal investigation into the case of the winger Mason Greenwood. Representatives of the Red Devils and the 21-year-old player decided to end their cooperation and are now looking for a new team for the player.

“Our process began in February 2023 after all charges against Mason were dropped. Throughout, we have taken into account the wishes, rights and perspective of the intended victim, as well as the standards and values of the club, and have tried to gather as much information and context as possible. This required us to be careful and cautious in order to obtain non-public evidence, in particular from persons with direct knowledge of the case.

Based on the evidence we have, we conclude that the material published on the Internet does not give a complete picture and that Mason did not commit the crimes with which he was originally accused. However, as Mason publicly acknowledged today, he made mistakes for which he is responsible.

All involved, including Mason, acknowledge the difficulties of resuming his career at Manchester United. It has therefore been mutually agreed that it would be more appropriate for him to do so away from Old Trafford and we will now work with Mason to achieve that result,” Manchester United said in a statement.

Greenwood was arrested on suspicion of raping and beating his girlfriend last winter. Soon the case of the Manchester United player was reclassified during the course of the investigation.

In February 2023, the midfielder was cleared of all charges. The player himself did not publicly respond to the accusations. Manchester United suspended Greenwood from training and matches indefinitely. Mason’s current contract with the club runs until 2025, and he played his last match for the team in January 2022.

Greenwood is a Red Devils alumnus and has scored 35 goals in 129 first team appearances. In 2020, the winger made his debut for the England national team.
