Mazzone’s coffin, made of blond wood with a crown of red roses over it, was greeted at the entrance to the church of San Francesco in Ascoli by various authorities, including Ascoli Mayor Marco Fioravanti, and the president of the region, accompanied by family members. Francesco Accaroli.

Placed above the coffin in the church was Ascoli’s scarf and the jerseys of some of the teams that Mazzone managed, including Ascoli, Perugia and Brescia.
Much applause inside and outside the church, where a crowd of fans, especially Ascoli, a club in the city where Mazzone lived with his family and of which he was an honorary citizen, greeted Carletto, waving flags and chanting his name. Outside the church, Mazzone was greeted by fans wearing Roma shirts. Among those present at the funeral was a delegation from Cagliari, represented by Primavera technical coordinator Roberto Muzzi, a former Mazzone, Bologna and Ascoli player led by President Carlo Neri, and various coaches including Serse Cosmi, Valter Novellino and Enrico Nicolini. The ceremony was co-served by Bishop Gianpiero Palmieri and Archbishop Emeritus Piero Coccia (ANSA).
