Saudi Pro League bosses don’t want Greenwood to join them

Team owners fear reputational risks

Club owners Saudi Pro Leaguewhich is tearing apart the European transfer market this summer, against the appearance in the championship of Saudi Arabia Mason Greenwood.

According to the bosses, the acquisition of the controversial player will cause “damage to the public image” of the league.

The day before, Manchester United completed an internal club investigation, as a result of which they decided not to renew their relationship with Greenwood.

Greenwood was arrested on suspicion of raping and beating his girlfriend last winter. Soon the case of the Manchester United player was reclassified during the course of the investigation.

In February 2023, the midfielder was cleared of all charges. The player himself did not publicly respond to the accusations. Manchester United suspended Greenwood from training and matches indefinitely. Mason’s current contract with the club runs until 2025, and he played his last match for the team in January 2022.

Greenwood is a Red Devils alumnus and has scored 35 goals in 129 first team appearances. In 2020, the winger made his debut for the England national team.
