RFU admits Mazic could become head referee for Tsymbalar memorial match between Spartak and World Team

Head of the RFU Events and Sponsorships Activation Department, Kirill Tereshin, told that the composition of the refereeing team for the game between veterans Spartak Moscow and the World Team, dedicated to the memory of former Red-White footballer Ilya Tsymbalar, would be determined later, but did not rule out that the Serb could become the main referee Milorad Majic.

Earlier, Oleg Tsymbalar, the ex-Spartak player’s son, told that the match in memory of his father was due to take place in early September. Florent Malouda, Fernando Morientes, Santiago Canizares and Emmanuel Adebayor have already confirmed their participation.

Mazhic appeared in two World Championships and one European Championship and was the main referee in the finals of the Confederations Cup in Russia, the Champions League and the UEFA Super Cup. In June, a 50-year-old Serb headed the RFU’s arbitration department.

Tsymbalar is a six-time Russian champion with Spartak. The midfielder died on December 28, 2013 at the age of 44.
