That’s because, according to “Le Parisien”, the club’s athletes scheduled a vote to decide the new captain of the team, since the Brazilian Marquinhos is no longer unanimous.
However, the defender remains one of the options in the election, running alongside Danilo Pereira, Mbappe, Kimpembe and even Verrattiwhich is no longer part of the plans of Luis Enrique. The Brazilian has been captain since 2020, when Thiago Silva left and the companion became one of the oldest in the current cast, behind only the Italian midfielder.
After the last game of the French Championship, coach Luis Enrique disclaims any responsibility for the choice: “I don’t choose the captains, it’s the players. They put who best represents them. This week I believe there was a meeting and there are four captains who represent them. I want player captains and they vote.”
