The American thinks that heavyweight is dead without him
Former World Heavyweight Champion Deontay Wilder spoke out about the heavyweight situation. The American is confident that he will be able to return to the top of the division.
“I am the mandatory challenger for the champion. I am a mandatory challenger in the WBA and WBC versions, number two in the IBO and number three in one of the others. I mean that I occupy a leading position in all ratings. So it’s just a matter of time before I’m back at the top and get all my belts,” Wilder said.
“Now I just sit, relax and enjoy life. I let other fighters do what they want. Because we all know, and it’s true, heavyweight is dead.”
Wilder held the WBC title from 2015-2020. The American lost the championship belt to Tyson Fury.
Deontay last fought in October 2022, knocking out Robert Helenius in the first round. Wilder’s next opponent could be Anthony Joshua.
