The Pitmen’s mentor shared his opinion about the match against Kolos, and also spoke about the condition of one of the club’s newcomers
Head coach Miner Patrick van Leeuwen commented on his team’s victory over ear in the fifth round championship of Ukraine.
“I think we started well, we controlled the game, we controlled the ball, we tried to create chances and in the end we scored the first goal. When they received a red card, they were forced to rebuild, think more about the structure of the game and focus on defense. And with one player less, we still managed to score one more goal.”
“In the second half, we adjusted the game to a ten-player system and pursued the goal of bringing the match to a victory, so we tried to keep the pace that we had before the break and attack. We succeeded in some moments, but we didn’t score again. And I want to note that the players who started playing in the minority and the team members who came on as substitutes did a great job on the field. They helped us score the second goal, stay in the game in the second half and not concede a single goal.”
“Becoming [Лемкин] suffered some minor damage against Tottenham that could get worse if he continues to play, so we gave him a chance to recover. He has been training with the team in recent days, but we think he needs more time to get into the squad.”
Recall that Shakhtar defeated Kolos on the road with a score of 2:0, playing in the minority from the 38th minute (Gocholeishvili was sent off).
The Donetsk club scored 11 points and took first place in the UPL standings. Roc is one point behind with a game in hand. In the next round of the Ukrainian championship, Shakhtar will play against Minay.
