Kharkiv players advanced to the UPL by winning the First League championship
Vice President Metallist Evgeny Krasnikov believes that the team will not compete for European competition in the first season after entering the Ukrainian Premier League.
The metalist advanced to the elite division by winning the First League championship last season, which ended ahead of schedule due to the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine.
“I don’t think that now, in the first year, we will compete for European competitions. We need to gain a foothold, to feel. If we were partially reinforced by legionnaires, then I could talk about it. And so we need to gain a foothold, try, ”Krasnikov said.
“Many guys have not played in the Premier League, but we believe in them. They are ambitious and eager. They feel our attitude towards them, and we feel the attitude of the guys towards us.”
The start of the Ukrainian Championship 2022/23 is tentatively scheduled for August 20. Officially, the format and dates of the next championship draw have not been approved.
