Croatian is a mandatory contender for a fight with a Ukrainian
Croatian heavyweight promoter Philip Hrgovic (16-0, 13 KOs) Calle Sauerland commented on the potential fight with the WBA/WBO/IBO/IBF world heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk (21-0, 14 KOs).
“It seemed to us – and we saw it in battle – that Usyk became slow. Hrgovic had long pauses, so 12 rounds in his fight with McKean were worth their weight in gold. This is what he needed.”
“We know what Hrgovic is capable of. Now is his time. We have serious chances in the fight with Usyk, it will be a fantastic fight,” Kalle Sauerland summed up.
Earlier, Hrgovic’s promoter Eddie Hearn said the Croat would push for a mandatory IBF title defense. The Croatian is the official contender for the belt owned by Usyk.
Hrgovic defeated Australian Demsey McKean in his last fight on a boxing evening in London at the O2 Arena. The Croatian retained his status as a mandatory contender for the IBF heavyweight title, which he won last August by defeating Zhang Zhilei.
Usyk defeated Dubois in a fight that took place in Wroclaw, Poland, and defended his titles. The Ukrainian knocked out the Briton after another accurate blow in the ninth round.
