Usyk: If the referee started the countdown, I would 100% rise

Ukrainian believes that Dubois acted dishonestly

WBA/WBO/IBO/IBF World Heavyweight Champion Oleksandr Usyk commented on the situation in the fifth round in a duel with Daniel Dubois, when the Briton stabbed him in the groin.

“If the referee started a countdown for me, I would 100% rise. Yes, maybe it would be a little more difficult for me to recover, but the fact that I would have risen is 100%.

“If there are people who are now ready to win in such an illegal way, I want to upset them. It’s impossible to win like that, you can’t win “dirty”.

In the fifth round, Usyk was on the floor after Dubois hit the Ukrainian below the belt. The referee gave Alexander time to recover, after which the fight continued. Dubois stated that the kick was clean and he was stripped of a legitimate victory.

At the end of the eighth round, Usyk knocked down Dubois, but the Briton managed to get up and continue the fight. And in the ninth round, the Ukrainian knocked out the Briton after another accurate blow.

After the fight, Alexander said that he intended to relax and spend time with his family. For his next fight, the Ukrainian challenged WBC champion Tyson Fury.

For the Ukrainian undefeated boxer, this victory was the 21st in the professional ring, the 14th time Usyk ended the fight ahead of schedule. Dubois suffered the second defeat of his career.
