“It was an honor to meet Maradona in person” – Deogracia, Orenburg head coach

The head coach “Orenburg” David Deogracia told that he spoke with the legendary Diego Maradona when the Argentine was working for Dynamo Brest.

In 2018, Maradona became chairman of the board of Dynamo football club Brest, signing a three-year contract. Subsequently, Diego left Belarus and returned to work as a coach. Deogracia was appointed Dynamo Brest academy head coach in 2017, leaving the team in January 2022.

– In Brest, you crossed paths with Diego Maradona. Consider working with a legend.

– I can’t say much about him, because we only met once – we greeted each other, talked a little. That’s all. He was more with the first team, and I worked with the academy, I spent a lot of time on the road.

– How did Maradona seem to you in a personal meeting?

– Most of the kids wore T-shirts with a ten on the back or wrote Maradona’s name themselves. He’s one of my favorite players, he’s my football hero. And it was an honor for me to personally meet Diego.

– When the news emerged that the Argentine was going to work in Belarus, it appeared to be a hoax. And you?

“It was something incredible. And his appointment at Dynamo really came as a big surprise to all of us. When Diego arrived in Minsk, the country’s central television channel broadcast him on the air.

– Maradona or Messi?

Each of them has their own time.

– Messi or Ronaldo?

“The question is difficult, but I like Cristiano more,” Deogracia told .

On August 22, Orenburg officially announced the departure of Jiri Yaroshik. The specialist left his post for family reasons. He was replaced by Spaniard David Deogracia, 50, who previously served as the team’s academy head coach.

In the first match of the Spanish specialist, Orenburg drew against CSKA in the home match of the sixth round of the WORLD RPL with the score of 1:1.
