Wernydub: I don’t like the moments when a footballer falls and screams like his leg has been torn off, and then gets up and runs further

The head coach of Kryvbas commented on some aspects of the match against Obolon, in particular, the reasons for the skirmishes with representatives of Kiev

Head coach Kryvbas Yuriy Vernidub – about his team’s goalless draw against Obolon in the 5th round championship of Ukraine.

“Neither Kryvbas nor Obolon managed to win enough. Equal football, the teams shared points. We knew that Obolon was a newcomer to the UPL. We knew what tactical scheme the opponent would play. 5-3-2 – as in the last matches. They close in their own half of the field: 10 defenders, and it is very difficult to pass such a rich defense.

“We didn’t have many chances: [Максима] Luneva, at [Максима] Zaderaki, and all, probably. And Obolon played with long passes, then to the right, then to the left. I do not want to offend the opponent, but this is what I saw in their performance. Kryvbas should have played more calmly. There were a lot of mistakes in the first half, unnecessary losses of the ball.”

“Dialogues with Obolon coaches? Everything is fine. I just don’t like the moments when a footballer falls and screams as if his leg has been torn off, and then after a while he gets up and runs further. This is not befitting professional players. Football is a certain artistry, but not that much. I train my players to be courageous.”

Recall that on August 28, Kryvbas played a draw with Obolon (0:0) in Kyiv and extended its unbeaten streak to four matches. Yuriy Vernydub’s team is 5th in the UPL with 8 points.

In the next round, the team of Vernidub will meet Kolos on September 3.
