The national striker lives his first weeks in Miedz Legnica with enthusiasm, as he expresses in a conversation with Weszlo. “I had a few failures which are valuable lessons for my future,” he says.
Ángelo Henríquez has a new opportunity. A few weeks ago was announced as the new reinforcement of Miedz Legnica of the Polish first division, has not yet made his debut in the points, but he has already seen the net in a friendly match between his club and Zaglebie Lubin where the Chilean striker scored his team’s first goal in a 2-1 win.
You want to stand out. He expresses it on the court, but also outside. In conversation with the media Weszlo The shooter He reviewed his career as a professional footballer, which promised many comebacks at first, but which stalled. “I still have a lot of time to move on to a higher level. I keep dreaming of playing in a big league. I still want to develop,” he says.
Its history is known. He started at the University of Chile, with Jorge Sampaoli, and was the top blue scorer of the Apertura 2012 when he was only 18 years old. “On my debut, I came in the last five minutes and scored a goal. The rival had to attack, he left a lot of space behind the defenders, which we took advantage of. A long ball came, I I ran several meters to the surface, alone with the goalkeeper and I shot with all my might,” he recalls.
This debut made him position himself as one of the most promising strikers of the decade in Chile. Henríquez attributes this performance in the U to Sampaoli. “I was not afraid to focus on young people,” he says.

Despite these memories during his first stage in the student team, the striker claims his best days as a footballer were spent in Croatia. At Dinamo Zagreb, Henríquez played 129 games and scored 52 times. “There, I had the opportunity to play the Champions League, the Europa League and win trophies,” he recalls.
Of course, talking about the U is special for him. Not only for his two periods as a player, but also for his steps before reaching professionalism: “My older brother was a professional footballer and also played at the University of Chile. It’s the biggest club in our country,” he says.
Your wishes in Europe
Manchester United, Wigan Athletic, Real Zaragoza and Dinamo Zagreb are the shirts that Ángelo Henríquez defended during his first stay in Europe, between 2012 and 2017. This year, Polish club Miedz Legnica joins that list, where they are looking to revive their career after several erratic seasons.
“After three years at the U, I arrived in Fortaleza in the second half of the previous season. I played a few games. It was fun to be in the Copa Libertadores, but I felt that I was not happy. I didn’t have the minutes I imagined and I didn’t feel the coach’s confidence. There are ups and downs. I had a few failures which are valuable lessons for my future (…) Now I have returned to Europe and I want to show what I can do,” he maintains.
Beyond the busy course, the national shooter is 28 years old. If he does not suffer from any serious injury, he still has several years left in his career. In addition, he wants it like this: “I am young, I feel young. Will it be possible to play until the age of 40? I would like that,” he added.
