Colombian player charges Santos with arrears, such as wages, guarantee fund and image rights; club can still appeal the decision
A National Dispute Resolution Chamber (CNRD) of CBF condemned the saints to pay a total of BRL 22.6 million to the Colombian striker Fernando Uribewho played for the club between 2019 and 2020. The decision can still be appealed by the club on the coast of São Paulo.
The athlete terminated his contract with the club in 2020, claiming delays in salary payments, guarantee fund and image rights. In the decision, the CNRD understood that the club did not fulfill its labor obligations and that the player would be entitled to the termination clauses of his contract with the team.
Santos was sentenced to pay BRL 5,923,007.67 referring to the sports compensatory clause, in addition to BRL 6,740,749.07 to the company responsible for the athlete’s image rights. In addition, Peixe must regularize all deposits in Uribe’s guarantee fund and pay a fine of 40% on the amount for termination purposes in the FGTS.
Finally, Santos will need to bear the procedural costs and the fees for losing the suit, which, together, amount to almost R$600,000. At the time, Uribe and one of his managers entered into an agreement with the club to terminate the contract, with each party giving up an amount.
