Kostyuk: We feel support – they come up to us and say that they are against Russia

Ukrainian woman to perform at Wimbledon 2022

Ukrainian tennis player Marta Kostyuk spoke about her feelings before the start of Wimbledon 2022. According to the athlete, she is receiving serious support in connection with the military invasion of the Russian Federation in Ukraine.

“We feel the support of England, which is certainly great, because there are not many countries that have provided such great support and such constant support. It’s good and pleasant here. We say that we are from Ukraine, and they answer us: “We are against Russia, we support you.”

“Honestly, I’m glad I’m playing here. Playing Grand Slam tournaments without ranking points will be one of the experiences in everyone’s life. I want to see what the atmosphere will be like, but I think it will be a little different from other tournaments.”

Wimbledon 2022 starts on Monday 27 June. Due to the Russian military aggression against Ukraine, carried out with the support of Belarus, Russian and Belarusian tennis players were not allowed to participate in Wimbledon. In this regard, the ATP, WTA and ITF will not award ranking points for performances in the tournament.

Kostyuk will start Wimbledon 2022 with Britain’s Cathy Swan. In addition to Marta, Angelina Kalinina, Dayana Yastremskaya and Lesya Tsurenko will play in the main draw of the event.

Early on the morning of February 24, Russia launched rocket and air strikes on most Ukrainian cities and then launched a full-scale military invasion. The war against Russia continues for the 123rd day.
