Arthur Elias rebuts Palmeiras coach on selection call-up

After Ricardo Belli’s statement, Arthur Elias spoke out for choices on the list of the first call up in charge of the Brazilian Women’s National Team

Arthur Eliastechnician of Corinthiansrefuted the declaration of Ricardo Belli, coach of Palmeiras, about the first call-up of the Brazilian Women’s National Team. Commander Alviverde questioned the selection of nine Timão players.

The CBF announced its new coach last Friday, the 1st, shortly after announcing the dismissal of the coach sink sundhage. Victorious coach in women’s football, Arthur was chosen for the position. He will leave Corinthians at the end of the Libertadores dispute.

“I found it strange to have ten players from the same team in the same squad. I think you (the press) can talk a little about that too, because if it was Diniz doing it in the men’s, I guarantee everyone would be beating up, even more on the eve of a Libertadores. But, feminine, sometimes, it’s a bit of no man’s land”, asked Belli after the Palmeiras match.

“One of the important things will be to work together with the clubs, with all the coaches. The statement I saw from Belli, coach of Palmeiras, was very regrettable. I thought it was very unfortunate in the placements, the idea is to have this door open with the coaches, to understand how each player is doing so that the call-up is increasingly fair. But, when a coach of a team as big and qualified as Palmeiras puts in doubt a call-up of Corinthians athletes, it leaves us very worried.

Corinthians is three consecutive Brazilian champions, we have the possibility of reaching the seventh final in a row. So, he was very unhappy to say that, the comparison with the men’s team and Diniz’s selections doesn’t fit. I’m a great friend of Diniz and I’m sure that if he had a team with our history and quality, he would also call a high number as well. We had eight athletes on Pia’s long list who could be called up for the last World Cup.

The most regrettable of all is to say that women’s football is no man’s land. I have been working for so many years and I am sure that it is a land of dreams, of children, girls, women and many who work overcoming obstacles. We have a stronger women’s football that passes through each professional, even more so when it comes to a team like Palmeiras. Still, I don’t know how he has that opinion. The Palmeiras team, in the clashes we had, never beat me, except for one game that I put in the base category. I want to close this subject, it’s a boring thing. I could not fail to mention, we are going to need everyone to have this commitment to women’s football.”
