Vasco resolves in the end, beats Operário and leans into the lead of Series B

With goals at the end of the second half, Vasco overcame Operário, maintained the runner-up position and reduced the distance to leader Cruzeiro to one point, who is still playing in the round

O Vasco won the factory worker by 3-0 on the night of this Friday, 24th, for the dispute of the 14th round of Série B of the Brazilian Championship. The team faced difficulties against the opponent, but had goals from Quintero, baby (penalty) and palaces in the second half to leave São Januário with the victory. With an assist, shirt 10 participated in two goals.

With the result, Cruzamaltino reached 30 points, maintained the vice-leadership of Serie B and shortened to a point the distance to the leader cruisewhich closes the round against Ituano. Operário, on the other hand, stopped at 16 points and dropped to 10th on the leaderboard.

The teams return to the field next week, for the dispute of the 15th round of the Série B of the Brazilian Championship. On Monday, 27th, at 8 pm (Brasília time), Operário opens the round against Chapecoense, in Germano Krüger. On Wednesday, 29, at 21:30 (Brasília time), Vasco will go to the Jorge Ismael de Biasi stadium to face the Novorizontino.

THE GAME

The teams made a first half without many chances to score and faced difficulties to pierce the opposing marking. Operário had more game volume and scared him in the 16th minute, in a move by Thales with Paulo Sérgio, close to the first post. At 30, Reniê took a risk from outside the area and forced the good defense of Thiago Rodrigues. In Vasco’s best chance, in the 27th minute, Pec received the ball freely, but Simão cut the shot at the right moment. The play, however, was disallowed for offside.

In the first dangerous move of the second half, at four minutes, Operário almost opened the scoring with the best chance of the match. Giovani Pavani risked a shot from the edge of the area and hit the crossbar. At 28, for Vasco, Palacios tried the first shot, free from the side of the area, but sent it out.

In the 34th minute, Quintero opened the scoring for Cruzmaltino. The defender took the ball from one of Nenê’s left crosses and headed straight for the net: 1 to 0. The defender scored for the first time with Vasco’s shirt, and Nenê’s ninth assist of the season.

In the 42nd minute, the referee scored the penalty for Vasco after reviewing the VAR. Nenê went for the kick and converted: 2 to 0. In stoppage time, at 50 minutes, Palacios took the free kick near the area with class and kept his in the angle to confirm Vasco’s victory: 3 to 0.

In a big party in São Januário, the Cruzmaltina fans welcomed the team with fireworks in the colors of the rainbow, in reference to the LGBTQIA+ flag, as a tribute to the International LGBTQIA+ Pride Day. The date is celebrated next Tuesday, June 28. Check out the video released by the club:
