Romanchuk won the first medal in the history of Ukraine at the World Open Water Championship

Mikhail became the third at a distance of 5 km

Ukrainian swimmer Mikhail Romanchuk became bronze medalist at the World Aquatics Championships in competition for open water.

Romanchuk finished third in the 5 km race with a time of 53:13.90. The Ukrainian lost more than 25 seconds to the winner of the swim, Florian Wellbrock (52:48.80). Silver was won by Italian Gregorio Paltrinieri (52:52.70).

Romanchuk’s medal was the first in the history of Ukraine at the world championships in open water. Note that for Mikhail it was a debut performance in this discipline at the world championship.

Romanchuk won the second medal at the 2022 World Aquatics Championships in Budapest. He previously won bronze in the 800m freestyle. At a distance of 1500 m, the Ukrainian took fifth place.

The Ukrainian has yet to compete in open water competitions at a distance of 10 km. The swim will take place on June 29th.

The FINA World Championships in Budapest will run until 3 July. The Ukrainian national team has already won nine awards (two gold medals).
