Luis Rubiales resigns from his position in the Spanish Federation

Luis Rubiales announced that he will leave the presidency of Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) definitively. The manager was removed from his position due to the controversy surrounding the forced kiss on the player Jenni Hermosofrom the national cast, during the awarding of the champions in the Women’s World Cup 2023.

Rubiales sent a letter to the entity making his decision in the case clear. In the document, the leader stated that he has “faith in the truth” and that he will do everything to ensure that it prevails. The Spaniard also highlighted in an interview with the reporter Piers Morgan who would have been advised by people close to him to move away from the RFEF.

“I spoke to my father, my daughters… They know it’s not about me. Some friends said: ‘Luis, now you have to focus on your dignity to continue your life, because otherwise you could hurt people you love’”said the now former president in a statement to the English journalist.

In the letter, Rubiales even highlighted: “I had to endure a lot in these three weeks. But this is more a question than just me. Things about me cannot affect others […]. “In this situation, the smartest decision is for me to leave.”. At the moment, Pedro Rocha heads the RFEF on an interim basis.
