The defender is glad that he is playing in Ukraine again
Defender Shakhtar Dmitry Chigrinsky spoke about his return and about the life of people in Ukraine during the war.
“Since the beginning of the war, I had this dilemma inside. I played football, did what I was used to doing, what I had done all my life, but knowing that your family, your parents are here in Ukraine. It’s not easy at all.”
“When I got the chance to come back, it was great. And honestly, now I feel very happy and proud of what I saw here. People are so united, they continue to fight, they continue to live, they are so optimistic, so brave.”
“Returning to Donetsk is also the dream of the president and all the people here. With the president’s capabilities, Shakhtar could build another arena or stadium in Kyiv. But we know where we come from, where our home is.”
Chigrinsky returned to Shakhtar in the summer. The defender became a free agent and signed a contract until June 30, 2024.
Dmitry was not included in the team’s squad for the first round match of the Champions League with Porto. Also, injured defenders Nikolai Matvienko and Valery Bondar did not go to Hamburg.
Shakhtar leads the UPL with 17 points. In the next match, the Pitmen will play Porto on September 19 in the Champions League. The meeting in Hamburg starts at 22:00 Kyiv time. The match will be judged by the Italian team of referees led by Davide Massa.
