Trubin: This experience is painful, but important

The Ukrainian goalkeeper evaluates his performance against Salzburg self-critically, but looks to the future with optimism

Goalkeeper Benfica Anatoly Trubin commented on his performance yesterday in the first round match Champions League against Salzburg (0:2).

“Not the result and not the performance that everyone expected. This experience is painful, but important. In the future, the main task is to continue to work and become better. Thank you for your support,” Anatoly wrote on his page on social networks.

Earlier, the coach of the Lisbon club, Roger Schmidt, admitted that the match was not easy for Trubin, but at the same time confirmed that the Ukrainian is able to play with concentration.

Let us remind you that on September 20, Benfica unexpectedly lost at home to Salzburg in the opening match of the 2023/24 Champions League. Trubin is not directly to blame for the missed goals, but the Ukrainian’s performance in this match can hardly be called successful.

Already in the second minute, Anatoly, having played unsuccessfully at a corner, “brought” the penalty into his own goal, but Karim Konate did not take the penalty. By the 15th minute, Benfica received a second penalty kick (Roko Simic scored) and was left with ten men – Trubin had nothing to do with it.

The Eagles, despite being outnumbered, beat the visitors in shots (17:13 in total, 7:4 on target), but did not score themselves and conceded again. Trubin played nervously, made a couple of mistakes, but at the same time made two good saves.

In the next round of the Champions League, Benfica will play away against Inter. The fight will take place on October 3. Before that, on September 29, she will face a home battle with Porto in the championship.
