Former president of Galo, Alexandre Kalil won the 2013 Libertadores while Cuca was coaching the team and talks about the champion coach’s controversies
Alexandre Kalil made history as president of Atlético Mineiro by leading the team to the title of Conmebol Libertadores 2013. And, by his side, was the coach Cucawhich recently raised a series of controversies by signing an agreement with the Corinthians. To the Ball of the Time this Saturday (23), the now former director spoke about the subject, in a program that will air at midnight, on Sunday, with a presentation of André Plihal and shares of Mario Marra It is Pedro Ivo.
Kalil told the guests that he did not know about Cuca when he hired him for the Athletic; the coach was sentenced in Switzerland for sexual acts with a minor in 1987. But, for the former Atletico president, what is needed now is an apology.
“The world has changed a lot, you know? I brought Cuca from Cruzeiro in 2011. I didn’t know what had happened. This had never been talked about. That wasn’t an issue, it never was an issue. The first is this, Cuca has to admit what he did. We cannot condemn. What does he have to do? So he calls a team and apologizes. He has to publicly apologize.”he stated.
O Corinthians announced Cuca in April this year. Given the enormous repercussion of the coach’s arrival, his time in São Jorge Park was limited to just one week, a scenario very different from that faced by previous teams.
“I was a little horrified by the Corinthians deal. I was kind of shocked: ‘Wow, this guy was my coach for three years. Not a line comes out. You take the internet from 2013, 2012… So I never talked to him because there was a case that I didn’t even know had justice, that had a conviction, I didn’t know anything, nothing. Nobody knew”he completed.
Alexandre Kalil was president of Athletic between 2008 and 2014, in a management marked by titles. Besides the Libertadoresthe team won the RecopaThe Brazil’s Cup it’s three Minas Gerais Championships. Subsequently, Kalil was elected to the City hall in Belo Horizontea position he held for six years.
