Genoa coach assured that the Ukrainian midfielder remains an important player of the team
Head coach Genoa Alberto Gilardino explained why the Ukrainian midfielder Ruslan Malinovsky began to receive less playing time.
“He is OK. He is progressing. When he came to us, I wanted him to start playing right away, and maybe at that moment, he was not in the best condition,” Gilardino said.
“There was a short period when he played less or not at all, but that doesn’t diminish my respect for him. He is an important player who should make a difference when he takes the field. We all expect great things from him.”
Malinovsky has not been a starter for Genoa in their last three matches. In the matches with Napoli (2:2) and Lecce (0:1) he came on as a substitute, and in the match with Roma (4:1) he remained on the bench.
This season, Malinovsky played in four matches for Genoa, without being effective. The midfielder plays for the Genoese team on loan from Marseille.
Genoa is in 11th place in the Serie A standings. On October 1, Gilardino’s team will play away against Udinese.
