Fortaleza concedes draw to Estudiantes in Libertadores

Fortaleza opens the scoring in the second half, but draws in a few minutes and leaves everything the same for the return game of the round of 16 of Libertadores

O Strength drew 1-1 with students this Thursday, 30th, at Arena Castelão, for the first leg of the Libertadores round of 16. Silvio Romero opened the scoring for Leão do Pici, who suffered the tie with a goal from Leandro Diaz. With the result, the spot for the next phase remains open.

The return game will be played next Thursday, July 7, at 9:30 pm (Brasilia time), at the Jorge Luis Hirschi stadium, in Argentina. Whoever wins, guarantees the spot in the next round. A new tie takes the decision for classification to penalties. It is worth remembering that there is no qualified goal in the competition, only the sum of the results.

Fortaleza returns to the field next Sunday, July 3, at 18:00 (Brasilia time), to face Coritiba, at Couto Pereira stadium, for the dispute of the 15th round of the Brazilian Championship. Leão do Pici is the lantern of the competition’s leaderboard, with ten points added in 14 games.

THE GAME

The first two dangerous arrivals of the match came from Estudiantes. In the first, in the 19th minute, Manuel Castro had the hesitation in the exit of the ball from Fortaleza and, by far, sent it out. In the second, at 23, Godoy risked the kick and demanded a great defense from Marcelo Boeck.

Better in the final minutes of the first half, Fortaleza opened the scoring in the ninth minute, with a goal by Silvio Romero. After a pass from Juninho Capixaba, the forward hit and saw the ball deflect in Noguera before going in: 1 to 0. Leão’s advantage, however, lasted until the 17th minute, when Leandro Díaz equalized with an assist from Más: 1 to 1.
