The innovation will be tested during the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
The International Football Federation has introduced a semi-automatic offside detection system. On its official website, the organization confirmed that the innovation will be tested at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
It is assumed that a special chip will be installed on the official tournament ball. At the same time, in all arenas, for the system to work properly, 12 special cameras will be installed, which will be placed under the roof of the stadium. They will monitor the position of the ball and the 29 points on each player’s body in such a way that all body parts that can offside are included.
VAR system referees will automatically receive notifications about the position of players on the field. The video assistants will then independently review the moment and report to the chief arbitrator. The process of determining out of the game will take a few seconds.
It also plans to show moments of offsides on the screens of stadiums so the audience can see the moment of breaking the rules. To do this, they will create an animation with a moment of offside.
It will be recalled that the 2022 World Cup in Qatar will be held from November 21 to December 18.
