Juventus knew about Fagioli’s betting problems, Bonucci spoke with teammate – media

Former captainJuventus » Leonard Bonucci discussed a teammate’s problems Nicolo Fagioli who bet on the results of football matches, reports La Repubblica.

A complaint was opened against Fagioli, 22, by the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) and the Turin public prosecutor’s office; the player is suspected of having bet on illegal platforms. Fagioli himself, during interrogation by law enforcement, admitted to betting on football matches.

Investigators studied the footballer’s phone and it turned out that his gambling addiction was not a secret for some members of the team. At least one member of the Turin club’s technical staff was aware (but it is certainly not the team’s head coach, Massimiliano Allegri, notes the source) and two teammates. Some conversations between Fagioli and Bonucci on the subject of betting were examined.

It turned out that the former Juventus captain, who now plays for Union Berlin, was aware of Fagioli’s gambling addiction, although there is no evidence that he himself had participated in betting. Chat messages analyzed by Turin prosecutors also reveal the names of two other Juventus players – “young and foreign” – who allegedly knew of Fagioli’s “habit” but remained silent.

In Italy, violation of the betting ban is punishable by disqualification for at least three years and a fine of at least 25,000 euros. But for those who admit their guilt, less severe sanctions are provided.
