Coach of the Ukrainian youth team – about the upcoming Euro 2025 qualifying match
Head coach Ukrainian youth team Unai Melgosa spoke about the team’s preparation for the match with England U-21 in qualification Euro 2025.
“All the players are fine. After a concussion [Олега] We watched the player briefly for one day, but everything is fine with him too. There are damages [Данила] It’s going to be quick, but we’re ready to play.”
“We know England’s capabilities. There are good players there, so you have to be the best version of yourself to compete with them. We worked during this training camp and the previous one too. It’s a process. Especially for young players. We look at these moments as a process. In September we carried out the necessary work. I hope we can compete with England.”
“The players must be in the positions, in the roles they should be in on the field. The most important thing for us is to be the best version. As a collective we must maintain balance and structure. The players accept all the instructions we give. But they are not robots, they think about our instructions and make decisions on the field. We are very happy about this.”
“We’ll see [готовы ли психологически к игре против Англии]. But it’s not just about the players. Coaches too. It’s about all of us – to be ready for such matches. It’s good for us to have this experience. The main thing we have to do is ourselves.”
“We had different conversations with Rebrov. This project starts from the national team, from his personality. We try to follow the instructions he gives us and his advice. We are in contact because some youth team players can instantly move to the national team. Therefore, you need to be ready to fulfill the requirements that the head coach has.”
Ukraine U-21 won two victories at the start of Euro 2025 qualifying and ranks second in Group F. Melgosa’s team is inferior to England in additional indicators.
The match between the youth teams of Ukraine and England will take place on Monday, October 16, in Kosice, Slovakia. Starts at 19:30.
