The attacker is a 45-year-old Tunisian migrant, Abdelsalem L. He lives in the Brussels commune of Schaerbeek. The criminal came to Belgium and hoped to obtain political asylum.
The match ended after the first half with a score of 1:1.

The attacker then explained his act on social media by claiming that he was taking revenge on oppressed Muslims. The police are still looking for the attacker. It is not yet known when the match will end. Police asked fans not to leave the stadium due to a security risk.
