The ex-coach of the Ukrainian national team is surprised by the resignation of Patrick van Leeuwen
Former coach of the Ukrainian national team Jozsef Szabo commented on the appointment Dario Srny acting head coach Shakhtar.
“It will be very difficult for Srna. I know him well. He was an excellent football player. He has a good relationship with Akhmetov, he is an honored person in the club. But to be a head coach, especially when there are now two games with Barcelona… I am afraid for this team.”
“In order to be a coach of such a team and participate in the Champions League, you still need to learn this. Not only how to play in a single match, but also a lot of things a coach has to learn. You have to be a good psychologist – you need to pat one on the head, quarrel with another. What loads to give is not at all easy.”
“Very surprised by Van Leeuwen’s resignation. I don’t understand who is doing this and who makes such decisions at Shakhtar. Although they wrote and said that only Akhmetov could fire him. I didn’t understand at the time when Jovicevic was fired, because he worked great. And he knows the language, and the specialist is excellent, and the team played well, and suddenly he is fired. I still don’t know why this happened.”
“A man came and was taken off Zarya. What did they promise him? But the team didn’t play. Many said that it puts a lot of stress on the players. In all likelihood, he could overload the players in order to get them through to the Champions League. In the first half against Antwerp, Shakhtar were not on the field, but in the second they produced a masterpiece. Although we should not forget that the opponent simply stopped and thought that they would not lose their 2:0 advantage.”
Earlier, the Miners announced the dismissal of Patrick van Leeuwen. Together with his mentor, he left the team and his coaching staff. Gornyakov sports director Darijo Srna became the acting head coach.
Shakhtar takes third place in the UPL, having played one match less for Krivbass and Polesie. On October 21, the team will play against LNZ in the Ukrainian Championship. The Pitmen also occupy third place in the Champions League group, and in the next match of the European Cup tournament they will play against Barcelona on October 25.
