Athletistic / Football. General Secretary of the Russian Football Union (RFU) Maxim Mitrofanov said that the organization is working on organizing a home match of the Russian national team in November 2023. The meeting is expected to take place during the FIFA international break.
“Work on organizing matches in November is underway,” Mitrofanov quotes RIA Novosti Sport.
Since November 2021, the Russian national team has played only two home matches, beating Iraq (2:0) in March 2023 and Cameroon (1:0) on October 16. At the end of February 2022, FIFA and UEFA, against the backdrop of events in Ukraine, jointly decided to suspend all Russian national teams and clubs from participation in their competitions.
After the start of sanctions, the Russian national team played eight friendly matches and won three of them. The day before, October 16, Valery Karpin’s team drew against the Kenyan team (2:2).
