Brazilian denounces racism and ends up being expelled from the game in Malta

Oratory Youths defender, Luis Gabriel reported racism suffered during the match, received a yellow card and, shortly, received a red card

Luis Gabrielof Oratory Youths, denounced an episode of racism he suffered in Maltese football. The Brazilian, better known as “Negueba”, reported what happened to the match referee at the same time, which led to confusion. He was penalized with a yellow card and, shortly after, received a red card, due to a foul.

“It was recurring in the match. During an attack by our team, I went to dribble the opponent and suffered a foul. I stayed on the ground and two players from their team came, and one of them called me a monkey in my ear, in Portuguese, not even in English or Maltese, he already knew what to say. The second player didn’t understand what he said, but the other was very clear. In my face”revealed Luis Gabriel.

“The referee didn’t even want to know, I signaled, I showed him, I put my hand on my arm, I told him what they said to me, but nothing was done and I ended up getting the card.”continued the athlete from the São Paulo city of Franca. “Racism happened, three minutes passed, I complained again, right after that they attacked, I made a foul and he (referee) sent me off. Kind of, like, I’m going to eliminate this problem in the game.”

Furthermore, Luis Gabriel revealed the support he has received from Oratory Youths, in contrast to the neglect of the highest football body in the country: “The Maltese FA sent me a message saying they wanted to speak to me, but we haven’t spoken yet. The club gave me all the support, they issued a note. They started a campaign this week and will continue. The federation is not in favor, they said they will talk to me and take the necessary measures.”
