São Paulo defender Diego Costa opened the game about how comments from the fans shaped his performance on the field and the responsibilities acquired being captain
Diego Costadefender of Sao Paulo, was sincere about the criticism received by the fans and his evolution on the field by Tricolor. With 22 years of age, the defender is the result of the base categories of the team and, after being pointed out as a disappointment, he gains more and more the trust and support of São Paulo.
“I used criticism to work harder, to learn and know the size of the club whose shirt I wear. I trained more, I covered myself more. Today I feel like a much more mature and prepared player”revealed Diego, in an interview with the newspaper Estadão. “I had to work hard and wait for my opportunity to return to acting”. The player was little used by the coach Hernán Crespo in 2021, but has been well-connected in the Sao Paulo in Rogerio Ceni of the current season.
CHANNEL – ATHLETISTIC:
It wasn’t having much of a following, but I knew it was only a matter of time. I was training a lot more. There was no way not to play again for what I had been showing to the coaches. It was something built over time. He (Ceni) didn’t look at me and chose me. It was me showing him in training that I wanted and deserved the position.”
The athlete also spoke about the responsibility of wearing the captain’s armband, which he was already familiar with in Cotia. Diego took charge of the professional team in five games; among them, three were classics: the last matches against palm trees (Brasileirão and Copa do Brasil) and also against Corinthians.
“As much as I’ve been captain at the base, being captain at the professional is a big responsibility. If I say I was waiting, I’ll be lying, but it was what I wanted”scored. “The belt came naturally. I’m very happy to use it. The most important thing is my performance, showing my teammates that I’m fine physically, technically and mentally.”
At the #TBTricolor today, let’s remember our first game at the San Carlos de Apoquindo Stadium, where we played tonight for @SudamericanaBR.
