The English qualified for Euro 2024 ahead of schedule
Head coach England international Gareth Southgate commented on the victory over Italy (3:1) in the qualification for the 2024 European Championship, and also shared his emotions from the early exit from the group.
“First of all, I think we played very well. We missed a goal, but we stayed calm and got back into the game. In the second half we played outstanding football, not only in the quality of our play, but also in the way we controlled the ball. Our wide players did an incredible job for us defensively.”
“As for the group, I think that we found ourselves in perhaps the most difficult group – with Ukraine, Italy and ourselves. From the very beginning, thanks to the victory in Naples and the performance here against Ukraine, we performed consistently well. I love working with this group of players, they are special,” Southgate said.
The England team, after six matches played, has scored 16 points and is leading Group C of qualifying for Euro 2024. Thanks to yesterday’s victory over Italy, the British advanced to the European Championship ahead of schedule.
In the final matches of the qualifying round, England will play against Malta and North Macedonia.
